Best fit

Start with the work your team repeats.

Fathom fits when
  • You deliver recurring, branded management reports to clients or a board
  • You need multi-currency consolidation as a released, supported feature
  • You need cash-flow forecasting and scenario planning
  • You want benchmarking across a portfolio of companies
  • Your books are in Xero, MYOB, or spreadsheets rather than QuickBooks
  • Multiple team members need access to the same reporting environment
MosoFin fits when
  • Your main need is asking questions of live books, not producing report packs
  • You already work in Claude and want financial data available there
  • You want read-only access with no write path to the books at all
  • You need each client or entity isolated with its own permissions and history
  • Your data is in QuickBooks
  • Cost matters and the reporting suite would go largely unused

Pricing

How much does each cost?

Fathom prices by the number of companies connected. It separates the full-featured Pro product from Portfolio, a narrower oversight product for accounting firms. Its pricing page can display different billing currencies, so use the official calculator for a current quote rather than relying on a copied price.

MosoFin publishes a $5.99 monthly Single Source plan. It includes unlimited workspaces and up to five authorized QuickBooks entities per workspace. The $0.99 trial lasts 14 days and renews automatically unless canceled before the trial ends. Claude is required and billed separately by Anthropic.

Fathom meters connected companies and provides a reporting suite. MosoFin meters the live data-source type and provides a read-only conversational workspace. A useful cost comparison includes setup, recurring output, review time, and the number of entities involved.

Tradeoffs

What each product leaves out

Where MosoFin falls short
  • No consolidation. Cross-workspace analysis is not eliminations, currency translation, or a reconciled consolidated statement.
  • No forecasting or budgeting module. A generated analysis is not a governed forecast.
  • No branded reports. Output is a conversation, not a client-ready pack.
  • QuickBooks only. If your books are in Xero or MYOB, MosoFin cannot help today.
  • Narrower collaboration model. Confirm the current membership and access controls before choosing it for a team.
  • Requires Claude. A second subscription, controlled by Anthropic.
  • Younger product. It has a shorter operating record than an established reporting platform.
Where Fathom may not fit
  • Cost scales with companies. Firms need to model the subscription against the number and plan type of connected companies.
  • Setup and upkeep. Reports and KPIs must be configured and maintained; the value comes after that investment.
  • Built around recurring outputs. If you mainly need a one-off answer, a reporting platform is a heavy way to get it.
  • Separate environment. Another application to open, rather than sitting where you already work.
  • Depth you may not use. Benchmarking, forecasting, and consolidation add value only when the workflow needs them.

Recommendation

Use Fathom for the pack. Use MosoFin for the question.

Fathom is the stronger fit for an accounting firm that sends clients a recurring management pack. Its released product includes consolidation, forecasting, benchmarking, and branded reporting.

MosoFin handles a smaller job: asking a question of live QuickBooks data across authorized entities or clients, inside Claude, while keeping access read-only and each workspace separate.

Some firms may use both. Fathom can own the monthly reporting cycle, while MosoFin handles the ad hoc questions that arise between reports. Teams that need consolidation, forecasting, branded reports, benchmarking, or accounting systems beyond QuickBooks should start with Fathom.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the main difference between MosoFin and Fathom?

Fathom is a reporting, forecasting, consolidation, and benchmarking platform. MosoFin is a read-only financial data workspace used conversationally inside Claude. Fathom is built for recurring reporting outputs. MosoFin is built for questions against authorized QuickBooks data across selected workspaces.

How does Fathom pricing compare to MosoFin?

Fathom prices by the number of companies connected and shows prices in the visitor's billing currency. MosoFin's current Single Source plan is $5.99 per month with unlimited workspaces and up to five authorized QuickBooks entities per workspace. The pricing units and product scope differ, so compare the total workflow rather than headline price alone.

Does MosoFin do consolidation like Fathom?

No. Fathom offers multi-currency consolidations as a released feature. MosoFin supports cross-workspace analysis when you explicitly select two or more authorized workspaces, which is not the same thing and is not a formal consolidation workflow with eliminations and currency translation.

Which accounting systems does each connect to?

Fathom documents support for QuickBooks, Xero, MYOB, Sage, FreeAgent, Excel, and Google Sheets. MosoFin currently uses QuickBooks as its live data source in Claude. Additional data sources are planned but are not available today.

Can a team use both?

Yes, and for some firms that is the sensible answer. Fathom handles the recurring client reporting pack; MosoFin handles the ad-hoc question between packs. They price differently enough that running both is realistic.
